Yuletide Yummies
Baking is one of my favorite things to do but baking Christmas cookies is extra meaningful to me. I used to spend a few days with my mom in the kitchen before the holidays baking her traditional cookies. It was always so much fun…and something I looked forward to helping with every year. Nowadays, I help when I can, but also like to bake a few batches of my own. I like to create new recipes or put a holiday spin on an existing recipe. It’s fun to be creative and I love hearing reactions to the different goodies. It doesn’t hurt that I have a sweet tooth so if no one else wants the cookies, I sure do! I love baking any time of year but baking for Christmas is something special. There so many themed recipes, fun cookie cutter shapes, and festive decorations to choose from. Whether you are baking treats for your coworkers, participating in a cookie exchange, or stocking up to have plenty of sweets on hand for family, the creativity and effort put into baking this time of year is appreciated by all. Fat Tuesday
Well we’re back to that time of year again, Mardi Gras. Unfortunate timing this year that Mardi Gras and Valentine’s Day are backed up so close together, but we couldn’t resist doing some fun New Orleans recipes for you. First up, let’s get our cocktail game started. We made our very own Hurricanes. We simplified some of the more detailed recipes usually found. All you need is mango passion fruit juice, lemon juice, lime juice, orange juice, white rum and dark rum. These are strong drinks, fit for anyone ready to party Mardi Gras style! Starting with our appetizers we decided to do scallops with a sweet chili sauce. A very simple dish, you thaw the scallops and simply dry with paper toweling, sear both sides, then serve with sweet chili sauce. Decadent Holiday Treats I have a huge sweet tooth and love to bake. I often refer to myself as a “Cookie Connoisseur” because that’s how much I love a good cookie. The holidays are a great time for baking because the options are endless.
