The recipe can be found here.

Start by making the Blue Milk Buns.  Combine the milk and food coloring in a bowl – stir well to combine.  Then, pour into the bowl of a stand mixer.  Add the package of instant yeast and stir to combine.

Add the flour, sugar, salt, egg, and melted butter.  Use the dough hook to slowly mix the ingredients together until a ball forms – it will be sticky!

Flour the counter and turn the dough onto the counter.  Knead while incorporating small amounts of flour until the dough is less sticky and easy to handle.  Divide into 6 equal portions and roll into balls.

Place the dough, spaced apart, on a parchment paper lined baking sheet.  Place in a warm space and let rise for approximately one hour.  Once risen, preheat the oven to 375 degrees F.

Optional – combine 1 egg with 1 tsp water in a small bowl.  Brush over the top of each bun before baking.  The egg wash *might* make the buns have a slightly brown top that’s crisp from the egg wash.  If you want your buns to be truly “blue”, it’s recommended to skip this step.

Bake for 14-16 minutes.  Remove from the oven and place on a wire rack to cool.  They smell wonderful (nothing like fresh baked bread) and look amazing at this point.

While the buns cool, form the ground beef (or chicken or turkey) into 6 patties.  Each patty will be 1/3 lb.  Season each side with salt and pepper.

Heat a skillet over medium heat, add the burgers, and cook on each side for 6-7 minutes or until prepared to your liking (for beef).  If using chicken or turkey, cook until the internal temperature reaches 165 degrees F.

To assemble, slice the buns in half.  Add sliced cheese to the bottom and top with a burger patty.  Add sliced tomato, sliced onion, and lettuce, then add the top half of the bun.  Serve and enjoy!
